Water Department

The City of Fairbury Water Department is managed by Mike Mellott, Water Superintendent.  Mike has 4 full-time employees including himself and 6 part-time employees.

The Water Plant is located at 1100 S. First Street and is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Bulk water may be purchased at the plant.

Water Meters operate over a wireless radio frequency that allows for up to the minute readings.

The City of Fairbury’s Water Plant earned the 2012 Runner Up Water Plant of the Year by the Illinois Rural Water Association in recognition of excellence for providing a safe and clean water supply.

The City of Fairbury offers ACH for water payments.  If you use bill pay through your bank, please know that your bank will cut a check to the City of Fairbury and mail the check to us.  Please be sure to allow enough days in order for your payment to be received on time.   Credit/debit card payments are accepted but there is a fee to use that service; please see the home page for instructions.

PART TIME EMPLOYMENT

The City of Fairbury is accepting applications for part-time employment with the City’s Water Department.  This position covers shifts on weekends, holidays and various other shifts during the week, as needed.  This position operates the plant in an efficient manner according to shift duties which include but not limited to,

Lifting 50lb bags
Cleaning work areas
Monitoring equipment
Climb up and down stairs multiple times
