The City of Fairbury contracted (summer of 2022)with GFL (Green For Life) to provide garbage and recycling collection for residential properties. GFL distributed carts to each residential address and they remain the property of GFL.

Trash pick-up schedule – SOUTH of the railroad tracks = Monday pick-up; NORTH of the railroad tracks = Tuesday pick-up
Recycling pick-up is bi-weekly on Tuesdays. Please see the schedule below for clarification.
WHEN MONDAY IS A HOLIDAY – Trash and recycling will be backed up one day. Monday’s trash will be picked up Tuesday; Tuesday’s trash and recycling will be picked up Wednesday.
Observed holidays include: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
It is suggested that trash be bagged before being placed in the cart.
Recycling must be loose inside the cart.
WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED – Plastics #1 & #2 ONLY; cardboard from cereal, gift and packing boxes; paper including newspapers, catalogs, phone books, magazine and junk mail; Steel, aluminum and bi-metal cans. NO GLASS.
WHEN PLACING CARTS ON THE CURB – Please place them so the lid opening is street side. Please place carts at least 5 feet away from vehicles, mailboxes, etc. When placing trash and recycling carts together, please space them 5 feet apart. Please do not overstuff carts; lids must be closed. Carts must be placed on the curb by 6 a.m.
BULK ITEMS – The City of Fairbury will pick up 2 bulk items per week at no charge. Additional bulk items over the 2 will be charged $10 per item. Charges will be added to your utility bill.
ADDITIONAL CARTS – Up to two additional trash and one additional recycling cart may be assigned to each address at a charge of $1.50 per additional 95 gallon cart each month. A smaller 35 gallon cart is also available for $1.50 per month. Charges will be added to your utility bill.
